Frequently asked questions
Will there be quality loss when converting MPEG to MP4?
There will be a small quality reduction because this is a transcode from one lossy codec to another. However, H.264 is significantly more efficient than MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, so the output file is typically much smaller at a similar or better visual quality.
What is the difference between MPEG-1 and MPEG-2?
MPEG-1 was designed for VCD-quality video at lower resolutions. MPEG-2 supports higher resolutions and is the codec used in DVD Video and broadcast television. Both formats are much older than modern H.264 and H.265.
My file is from a DVD rip. Will this converter handle it?
DVD video uses MPEG-2 encoding. BoltConverter can process MPEG-2 video files, but raw DVD VOB files or encrypted DVD content require demuxing or decryption before conversion.
Is there a file size limit?
MPEG files up to 500 MB are supported. MPEG-2 files tend to be larger than modern formats, so you may need to split long recordings before converting.
Are my files stored after conversion?
No. Both the uploaded MPEG file and the converted MP4 are deleted from our servers immediately after you download the result.
